The lowest part of any such sign or any support thereof which extends over any public way shall be at least ten feet (10') above the level of the walk or public way over which it extends, but no such sign shall be maintained over any public way used by vehicles if any part of its support or of the sign is less than fifteen feet (15') above the level of such public way. The lowest part of any canopy or awning shall be eight feet (8') above the level of the walk or public way over which it extends. (1967 Code § 12.306; amd. 1977 Code)
All existing signs, supports thereof, awnings and canopies shall be classified as nonconforming, as of the effective date hereof. When such signs, supports thereof, awnings or canopies are replaced or a major repair made thereon, a permit must be obtained. (1967 Code § 12.306)
