RESIDENTIAL ZONES

10-3A-1: PURPOSE:
The purpose of the R-1 single-family residential zone is to preserve residential neighborhoods, to prevent overcrowding of the land and to encourage the development of low density areas which are best suited to residential purposes. (Ord. 201, 6-9-2003)
10-3A-2: USES ALLOWED:
The following uses are allowed in the R-1 zone:
Accessory uses as regulated in section 10-3A-7 of this article.
Agriculture or horticulture, including the raising of animals, except hogs, pigs, including pot bellied pigs, goats and poultry 1 ; provided, that such pursuits as agriculture, horticulture and the raising of animals are not raised or maintained for commercial purposes; ("commercial purposes", as used in this paragraph, means the sale or exchange of animals or commodities for profit of any kind); and further provided, that no horse, cow or unusual farm animal shall be maintained on any parcel or lot which contains less than one acre 2 ; and provided, that buildings and enclosures housing such animals shall be not less than thirty feet (30') from all property lines and at least fifty feet (50') from all residential structures and that all requirements of the appropriate health agencies are met; and further provided, that areas for the raising of animals are adequately fenced, other than with barbed wire 3 , to keep such animals within such areas.
Churches.
"Home occupations" as defined in section 10-2-1 of this title.
Schools.
Single-family dwelling.
Temporary buildings as uses necessary for construction for a period not to exceed one year. (Ord. 201, 6-9-2003; amd. 2008 Code)
