A. It shall be the duty of the Building and Code Services Officer to examine all applicants desiring to engage in the business of electrical installation or wiring in the city who shall file with the city clerk an application for a license and pay the necessary fee therefor. The examination will be held on the second Tuesday of each month. Applicants must register by the Friday prior to the exam by the close of business in the Building and Code Office at City Hall. The applicant must score seventy five percent (75%) or higher to pass. The examination will have a three (3) hour time limit and will be considered open book.
B. An examination shall not be required for an applicant under the following circumstances:
1. Applicant submits a copy of a current valid journeyman license.
2. Applicant submits documentation showing they are already licensed and in good standing with another municipality within the State of Illinois. (1977 Code § 15.16.040; amd. 2013 Code; Ord. 3678, 11-9-2020; Ord. 3822, 7-25-2022; Ord. 3837, 10-10-2022)
A. Upon the recommendation of the code enforcement officer of the applicant for a license, and payment of the fee and furnishing bond as aforesaid, the license shall be issued by the mayor and countersigned by the city clerk. (1977 Code § 15.16.100)
B. When two (2) or more persons, copartners, or a corporation is an applicant for a license, the same shall be issued in the name of the firm or copartnership. (1977 Code § 15.16.110) (amd. 2013 Code; Ord. 3837, 10-10-2022)
A. No license shall be transferable, and every license shall expire on January 31 next succeeding its issuance.
B. Every licensee may apply for renewal each year, prior to the expiration of their license, by paying the applicable license fee accompanied by an updated copy of the required bond, notice of any changes to contact or business information and verification of completion of a minimum of eight (8) hours of continuing education in the electrical field. Any change of firm name or location of place of business shall be promptly reported to the city, and every license shall be posted by the licensee in a conspicuous place in his place of business. (1977 Code § 15.16.130; amd. Ord. 3837, 10-10-2022)
Any person who shall violate any provision of this chapter shall, upon conviction thereof, be subject to a fine as provided in section 1-4-1 of this code. (2013 Code; amd. Ord. 3837, 10-10-2022)
