4-11A-1: DEFINITION:

The term "electrical contractor", as used in this article, means and is construed to include any person, firm or corporation engaged in the business of installing or altering, by contract, equipment and electrical appliances for the utilization of electricity supplied by light, heat or power, not including radio apparatus or equipment for wireless reception of sounds and signals, and not including apparatus, conductors and other equipment installed for or by public utilities, including common carriers, which are under the jurisdiction of the Illinois commerce commission for use in their operation as public utilities; but "electrical contractor" does not include employees employed by such contractor to do or supervise such work. 4-11A-2: LICENSE REQUIRED; EXEMPTIONS:

   A.   No person shall hereafter engage in the business of electrical installation or wiring in the city without having obtained an electrical contractor's license, as provided in this article, unless performing the work under the direct supervision of someone who is already licensed pursuant to this Code and the licensee shall have personal knowledge of the proposed work and shall personally inspect the work to ensure that it is done in accordance with sound principles of electrical construction and work and in accordance with the national electrical code of 2017.

   B.   Provided, that the provisions of this article shall not apply to work done by any public service corporation furnishing and supplying an electrician upon its own lines, apparatus and equipment. (1977 Code § 15.16.050; amd. Ord. 3678, 11-9-2020; Ord. 3837, 10-10-2022)
