9-2-1: DEFINITIONS:
PARK TREES: Trees, shrubs, bushes, and all other woody vegetation in public parks having individual names, and all areas owned by the city, or to which the public has free access as a park.
STREET TREES: Trees, shrubs, bushes, and all other woody vegetation on public right of way lying between property lines on either side of all streets, avenues, or ways within the city.
TREE TOPPING: The severe cutting back of limbs to stubs larger than three inches (3") in diameter within the tree's crown to such a degree so as to remove the normal canopy and disfigure the tree. (Ord. 1731, 3-7-2011)
9-2-2: TREE SPECIES TO BE PLANTED:
The park and tree board develops and maintains a list of desirable trees for planting along public right of way in three (3) size classes based on mature height: small (under 20 feet), medium (20 to 40 feet) and large (over 40 feet). Efforts shall be made to ensure a sufficient diversity of tree species. Lists of trees suitable for planting will also be created by the park and tree board. (Ord. 1731, 3-7-2011)
9-2-3: SPACING:
The spacing of street trees on public right of way will be in accordance with section 9-2-2 of this chapter, and no closer than as follows: small trees, fifteen feet (15'); medium trees, twenty five feet (25'); and large trees, thirty five feet (35'); except in special plantings approved by the park and tree board. (Ord. 1731, 3-7-2011)
9-2-4: DISTANCE FROM CURB AND SIDEWALK:
The distance trees may be planted from curbs or curb lines and sidewalks will be in accordance with section 9-2-2 of this chapter, and trees shall not be planted closer than two feet (2') for small trees or medium trees to any curb or sidewalk. (Ord. 1731, 3-7-2011)
9-2-5: DISTANCE FROM STREET CORNERS AND FIRE HYDRANTS:
No street tree shall be planted within twenty five feet (25') of any street corner, measured from the point of nearest intersecting curbs or curb lines. No street tree shall be planted within ten feet (10') of any fire hydrant. (Ord. 1731, 3-7-2011)
9-2-6: UTILITIES:
No street tree, other than those species accepted as small trees by the park and tree board, may be planted under, or within ten feet (10') of any overhead utility wire. (Ord. 1731, 3-7-2011)
