5-3-5: AUTHORITY TO CONTROL TRAFFIC WITHIN THE VILLAGE:
   A.   The village board of trustees or their lawful delegate shall place and maintain official traffic control devices including, but not limited to, electronic signals, signs, roadway markings, land designations and manual or oral signals from law enforcement officers when and as required under the village traffic ordinances or the Illinois vehicle code for the purpose of making such ordinances or statutes effective. This authority includes, but is not limited to, the designation of one-way streets, arterial streets, through streets, parking and no parking areas, play streets, crosswalks, safety zones and traffic lanes.
   B.   All rules and regulations concerning the placement and maintenance of the traffic control devices included in subsection A of this section, heretofore authorized by the corporate authorities or their lawful delegate prior to the passage of this chapter, shall remain in force and effect to the extent that they do not conflict with the rules and regulations passed pursuant to this chapter.
