Effective January 1, 2000, if a City employee is killed in the line of duty or dies as a direct and proximate result of the performance of the employee’s official work-related duties, the City shall, within ninety (90) days of the employee’s death, make one (1) payment of One Hundred Thousand Dollars ($100,000.00) to the surviving spouse or, if there is no surviving spouse, to the estate of the employee. This payment shall be in addition to any other benefits or compensation to which the employee’s beneficiaries would be entitled.
