A. Appointment: The city manager shall appoint an assistant fire chief and such other paid and volunteer firefighters as may be deemed necessary by the council. (2000 Code § 13-305)
B. Tenure: The fire chief, assistant fire chief, and the paid and volunteer firefighters shall hold office until removed by the city manager and council for good and sufficient cause. (2000 Code § 13-306)
C. Department Membership; Salaries:
1. The fire department shall consist of a fire chief and other such paid and volunteer fighters as may be provided by official action of the mayor and council. Members shall hold office for the duration of their appointment unless sooner removed by the appointing authority. The volunteer fire department shall at no time exceed that number permitted by state law, unless increase of its membership is authorized by special act of the city council. (2000 Code § 13-307; amd. 2. There shall be at least two (2) paid members of the department, at salaries to be fixed by the council.
3. Each member of the fire department shall be paid as the council from time to time shall determine. Payment of members of the department shall be made by warrants drawn upon the city treasurer. (2000 Code § 13-307)
