13-2-5: TRAINING:
   A.   Implementation Of Training Program: The chief of police, or his designee, shall be responsible for implementing a program of training for the reserve police to ensure that they are properly trained and certified as required by state law for reserve police officers, to include continual training in the carrying and use of weapons, lethal and nonlethal, the handling of prisoners, the use of city equipment, the powers of arrest and other such matters as the chief of police, or his designee, may deem appropriate. (2000 Code § 13-205)
   B.   Compliance With State Law:
      1.   The training of the reserve police force shall be as mandated by state law, and such training will be conducted to the standards required by state law for police officers generally. The Seminole police department may itself provide the training to said reserve officers, under the direction of the police chief.
      2.   A new member shall, as provided for by state law, attend and complete a reserve police academy conducted by the state at the municipality's expense. (2000 Code § 13-205; amd. Ord. 1069, 2-12-2008, eff. 3-13-2008)
   C.   Performance Of Functions; Police Chief Approval Required: No new member of the reserve police force shall perform any police function, carry any weapons, or make any arrest without the authorization of the chief of police or his designee. Said authorization shall not be given until the new member is determined by the chief of police, or his designee, to be ready for such duty. (2000 Code § 13-205)
