When persons are arrested and lodged in jail, it shall be the duty of the police officer making the arrest to search all persons so arrested, and the officer in charge of the police station shall keep an accurate record of all articles found upon the person of any prisoner and shall carefully preserve them and produce them to the police judge upon trial.
