56-9-3: SOURCE AND SURFACE WATER PROTECTIONS WITHIN SALT LAKE CITY:
   A.   Riparian Overlay Zone: When carrying out activities or construction projects within the Riparian Overlay Zone, departments and divisions shall adhere to the requirements of the RCO Riparian Corridor Overlay Zone outlined in section 21A.34.130 of the City Code, and respect riparian values, which include:
      1.   Minimizing erosion and stabilizing stream banks;
      2.   Protecting water quality;
      3.   Preserving aquatic and wildlife habitat;
      4.   Moderating stream temperature;
      5.   Reducing potential for flood damage; and
      6.   Preserving the natural aesthetics of the stream corridor.
   B.   Riparian Permits: Riparian permits are required for any parcel within one hundred feet (100') of a creek or river. This rule applies to City Creek, Red Butte Creek, Emigration Creek, Parley's Creek and the Jordan River.
   C.   Buffer Setbacks, Special Controls: Developments within one hundred feet (100') of surface water, including canals, ditches, wetlands and ponds, may be subject to buffer setbacks and special water quality controls.
Ground Source Heat Pump Systems: Ground Source Heat Pump (also known as Geothermal) Systems must be reviewed by the Department of Public Utilities to discuss standards to reduce the risk of drinking water contamination.
