§ 56.03 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS.
   (A)   Approved backflow prevention assemblies shall meet the American Society of Sanitary Engineering (ASSE) standard and carry the ASSE seal or be on the University of Southern California approval list.
   (B)   The following are the approved types of backflow prevention assemblies for use within the town to prevent backflow into the Town of Murphy's public potable water system. All backflow prevention devices shall have received approval of their design and construction from the American Society of Sanitary Engineers (ASSE), or the American Water Works Association (AWWA), or USC, or the Foundation for Cross Connection Control and Hydraulic Research, whichever is most restrictive.
      (1)   Double Check Valve Assembly (DCVA)
      (2)   Double Check Detector Assembly (DCDA)
      (3)   Reduced Pressure Zone Principle Backflow Prevention Device (RPZ)
      (4)   Residential Dual Check Valve (RDC)

§ 56.04 LIMITATION OF LIABILITY.
   The Town of Murphy shall not be held liable, for any cause, for failure to detect any unit failing to operate adequately, or failure to identify any specific hazard, which may result in contamination of its public water supply, nor shall this section diminish the responsibility of any property owner from whose property a contamination of the public water supply may originate.

COMPLIANCE
§ 56.15 COMPLIANCE WITH FEDERAL AND STATE LAW.
   The Town of Murphy will comply with the Federal Safe Drinking Water Act, the North Carolina Drinking Water Act, and North Carolina State Building Code, which pertain to cross-connections, auxiliary intakes and interconnections, and establish an effective ongoing program to control potential sources of contamination of the public water supply.

§ 56.16 UNLAWFUL CONNECTIONS.
   It shall be unlawful for any person to cause a cross-connection, auxiliary intake or inter-connection to be made; or allow one to exist for any purpose whatsoever.
