6-1-8: CUSTODY OF LOST, STOLEN PROPERTY:
The chief of police shall be the custodian of all lost and abandoned or stolen property in the city. Property is to be retained at the police department, locked in a safe place to prevent theft and pilferage, and a record of such property and disposition of same filed with the city clerk.
Abandoned or stolen property in possession of the chief of police in excess of ninety (90) days, not properly identified or claimed, may be disposed of by public sale and funds derived from such sale turned over to the city clerk. (1967 Code § 8.011; amd. 1977 Code)
