In the event of a vacancy in the office of mayor, the council may appoint one of its members as acting mayor to serve until the vacancy is filled at a regular or special election, as provided by the statutory language in 65 Illinois Compiled Statutes 5/3.1-10-50. (1967 Code § 1.006; amd. 1977 Code)
