6-1-2: OFFICE OF CHIEF CREATED:
There is hereby created the office of the chief of police. The chief of police shall be appointed by the mayor, by and with the advice and consent of the city council, and he shall be ex officio city marshal and superintendent of police. The chief of police shall serve at the pleasure of the mayor and city council and be subject to removal at any time by the mayor, with the concurrence of a majority vote of the city council. If not so removed, he shall hold office until the expiration of the term of the mayor in office at the time of his appointment as chief of police, and thereafter, until his successor is appointed and qualified.
