A. The following signs may be located in any lot, provided there is adherence to the bulk regulations set forth in the Zoning Ordinance:
1. A name sign identifying the owner or occupant of a building or dwelling unit provided the surface area does not exceed six (6) square feet.
2. An identification sign of and upon a property for which a special use permit has been issued, provided the surface area does not exceed six (6) square feet, e.g. a sign identifying a stable.
3. In connection with the construction or remodeling of several buildings in a Residential District, there shall be permitted one (1) project sign, a free standing sign, not exceeding sixteen (16) feet in width nor eight (8) feet in height. However, in the event the sign is of and for a property for which a special use permit has been issued adjacent to Illinois State Route 60 (Townline Road), there shall be permitted one (1) additional project sign, a free standing sign, not exceeding four (4) feet in width nor three (3) feet in height.
B. Garage sale signs, provided any such sign does not exceed six (6) square feet, is located on the same lot upon which the sale is held, is displayed for no more than three (3) days and not more than three (3) times per year, and is removed no later than nine o'clock (9:00) p.m. on the last day of each such sale.
C. One (1) subdivision sign per planned unit development.
1. Each such sign shall not exceed the overall dimensions of fourteen (14) feet in width, four (4) feet in height and two (2) feet in depth. In addition, no letter in the message may exceed eighteen (18) inches in height.
2. Each such subdivision sign may be illuminated from within, provided the energy used for such illumination is limited to solar power.

1. Real estate signs.
2. Wall signs upon buildings shall be limited to five (5) feet in length and fifty (50) square feet in surface area, and only the name and address of the building, occupants, or management may be displayed. One (1) sign shall be permitted for each lot; however, on corner lots, two (2) such signs, one facing each street shall be permitted.
B. All signs permitted in the O-R Planned Office/Research District shall be set back at least fifteen (15) feet from any road and be placed not closer than five (5) feet from any property line. Advertising signs shall not be permitted.
C. One (1) subdivision sign per planned unit development.
1. Each such sign shall not exceed the overall dimensions of thirty (30) feet in width, four (4) feet in height. In addition, no letter in the message may exceed eighteen (18) inches in height.
2. Each such subdivision sign may be illuminated from within or by spotlighting hidden from the view of passers-by or by backlighting.

A. Except as otherwise set forth in Sections 10.301 and 10.305, only the following signs shall be permitted to be erected in the H, Office/Hotel District, and then only under the conditions hereinafter specified:
1. Provided a building in excess of forty-five (45) feet in height is located on a lot adjacent to Interstate 94, a wall sign that is an illuminated sign shall be permitted on any building wall facing Interstate 94 and/or Illinois State Route 60 (Townline Road) and no more than one non-illuminated sign in total shall be permitted to be placed on a building wall facing Riverwoods Boulevard as follows:
a. No more than one (1) wall sign shall be erected on each such wall;
i. Each such wall sign shall be located at a height on such wall at least seventy (70) feet above grade but not more than eighty-five (85) feet above grade;
ii. The letters of a message on each such wall sign shall not exceed seven (7) feet in height and fourteen and one-half (14.5) feet in width; and
iii. The overall structure of each such wall sign shall not exceed ten (10) feet in height and forty-five (45) feet in width.
b. So long as it does not exceed four and one half (4.5) feet in height, one (1) identification sign (whether a freestanding sign or a monument sign) shall be permitted upon each lot, provided the gross surface area of such sign does not exceed twenty-eight (28) square feet nor three and one-half (3.5) feet in height nor eight (8) feet in width. However, if the lot upon which such sign is located lies immediately adjacent to Interstate 94, an additional identification sign containing a gross surface area not exceeding one hundred twenty-eight (128) square feet shall be permitted on a monument sign not exceeding eight (8) feet in height nor sixteen (16) feet in width.
c. One (1) building leasing temporary sign, a freestanding sign, shall be permitted upon each lot, provided the gross surface area of such sign does not exceed thirty-two (32) square feet nor four (4) feet in width nor eight (8) feet in height. An additional building leasing temporary sign, a freestanding sign, having a gross surface area not exceeding sixteen (16) feet in width nor eight (8) feet in height shall be permitted upon each lot, if such sign is located within fifty (50) feet of and facing the Interstate 94. In no event during any given calendar year shall a building leasing sign remain erected more than three (3) consecutive months nor more than ninety (90) days.
2. Provided a retail sales building of forty-five (45) feet or less in height is located on a lot containing a gasoline and/or diesel fuel station as an accessory use to the principal retail sales building use and provided the lot is adjacent to Interstate 94, only the following signs shall be permitted on such lot and none others:
a. No more than one (1) wall sign that is an illuminated sign may be erected on each exterior wall of the principal retail sales building other than a north wall.
i. Each such wall sign shall be located at a height on such wall at least fifteen (15) feet above grade but not more than thirty-one (31) feet above grade;
ii. The individual letters of a message on each such wall sign shall not exceed seven (7) feet in height; and
iii. The overall structure of each such wall sign shall not exceed ten and one-half (10-1/2) feet in height and thirty-seven and one-half (37-1/2) feet in width.
b. No more than one (1) canopy sign shall be erected on each exterior side of the canopy over the accessory gasoline and/or diesel fuel station use on the lot. The overall structure of each such canopy sign shall not exceed three (3) feet in height and sixteen (16) feet in width.
3. One (1) subdivision sign per planned unit development.
i. Each such sign shall not exceed the overall dimensions of thirty (30) feet in width, four (4) feet in height. In addition, no letter in the message may exceed eighteen inches in height; and
ii. Each such subdivision sign may be illuminated from within or by spotlighting hidden from the view of passers-by or by backlighting.
B. All signs permitted in the H Office/Hotel District and the O-R Planned Office/Research District shall be set back at least fifteen (15) feet from any road and be placed not closer than five (5) feet from any property line. Advertising signs shall not be permitted.

This Chapter, with the exception of Section 10.501, shall not apply to, and no building permit need be issued for:
A. The removal of legal nonconforming signs, except with respect to regulations governing their removal.
B. Political signs, provided there is adherence to the bulk regulations set forth in the Zoning Ordinance.
C. Temporary decorations or displays when such are clearly incidental to and are customarily and commonly associated with any national, local or religious holiday or celebration.
D. Temporary signs or permanent signs erected by public utility companies or construction companies to warn of danger or hazardous conditions, including signs indicating the presence of underground cables, gas lines, and similar devices as well as traffic or other Village signs, legal notices, railroad crossing signs, danger and emergency temporary signs, any other non-advertising signs as may be approved by the President and Board of Trustees are also exempted.
E. All official traffic signs and warning signs, when erected or required to be erected by a governmental agency, and temporary signs indicating danger.
