AWNINGS AND CANOPIES
12.20.220   Permits and inspection required.
   Permits for awnings and canopies shall be required. Awnings and canopies shall be subject to annual inspection as required. (Prior code § 21-2-8)
12.20.230   Minimum height regulations.
   All awnings shall be constructed and erected so that the lowest portion thereof shall be not less than eight feet above the level of the sidewalk or public thoroughfare, while all canopies shall be constructed and erected so that the lower portion thereof shall be not less than nine feet above the level of the sidewalk or public thoroughfare. 12.20.240   Width regulations-Curb line.
   No awning or canopy shall be permitted to extend beyond a point twelve inches inside the curb line. There is no limitation on width of awnings; however, full compliance with Section 12.20.110 is required. No canopy shall be permitted to exceed eight feet in width. (Prior code § 21-2-3)
12.20.250   Design requirements.
   The framework of all canopies shall be designed by a structural engineer and approved by the building inspector. All frames and supports shall be of metal and designed to withstand a wind pressure. (Prior code § 21-2-5)
12.20.260   Approved materials.
   Awnings may be constructed of cloth or metal and canopies may be constructed of cloth or metal hood; provided, that all frames and supports shall be of metal. (Prior code § 21-2-1)
12.20.270   Support and attachments- Requirements.
   Every awning shall be securely attached to and supported by the building. Posts or columns beyond the building line shall not be permitted for awnings. No awning shall be attached to the wood jambs, frames or other wood members of a building, frame buildings excepted, when such building is less than ten feet from public property.
