The city engineer shall, at the expense of the city, cause good and substantial signs bearing the names of the streets and avenues of the city respectively, to be put up and maintained upon at least two of the corners at each crossing of all streets and avenues. Such signs shall be so placed as to be in plain view of persons passing either way upon any of such streets or avenues. Where there are no buildings at or near such crossings or the streets or avenues are not open or graded, the putting up of such signs may be postponed until such time as it is deemed necessary or until it shall be directed by a resolution of the city commission. (Prior code § 4-4-8)
It is made the duty of every owner, occupant or agent of any building in the city, required to be numbered by the provisions of this chapter to put on such buildings now built, in a conspicuous place and next to the street on which it fronts, the proper number or numbers thereof. Such number or numbers shall be in figures not less than two inches in length and shall be placed on all buildings within ten days after the completion or occupation thereof. (Prior code § 4-4-12)
In case any owner, occupant or agent of any building in the city shall refuse, fail or neglect to number such building within the time specified in this chapter or shall number or attempt to number such building otherwise than in conformity with the provisions of this chapter, such person shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and the city engineer shall cause such building to be correctly numbered at the expense of the city.
