2-1-1: DEPARTMENT ESTABLISHED:
There is hereby established an executive department of the Village municipal government to be known as the Hampshire Police Department, for the protection of lives and property, the enforcement of State laws and Village ordinances, and related police functions. (1985 Code)
2-1-2: PERSONNEL APPOINTED:
   A.   The Hampshire Police Department shall consist of one Chief of Police and such other policemen as may be provided from time to time by the Village President and Board of Trustees.
   B.   All members of the Hampshire Police Department, including the Chief of Police, shall be appointed by the Village President and Board of Trustees, as provided by law. (1985 Code)
2-1-3: SUPERVISION OVER DEPARTMENT:
The Village Manager shall exercise a general supervision and control over the Hampshire Police Department and the officers therein, and shall see that they are prompt and efficient in the discharge of their duties. The Village Manager shall, from time to time, present information to the Board of Trustees regarding the affairs of the Village and shall recommend for their consideration such measures as shall be deemed necessary to preserve the peace and good order of the Village, and the prompt and efficient enforcement of all the laws and ordinances of the Village. 2-1-4: COMPENSATION OF POLICE:
Compensation for members of the Hampshire Police Department shall be determined from time to time by the Village President and Board of Trustees. (1985 Code)
2-1-5: DUTIES OF MEMBERS:
   A.   All police officers shall have the powers conferred upon them by law.
   B.   All police officers appointed hereunder shall be conservators of the peace and shall aid in the preservation of the public peace.
   C.   All police officers appointed hereunder shall have the authority to observe and enforce the laws of the State of Illinois and the ordinances of the Village in the protection of the people's lives and properties. To this end, they shall have the authority to detain or arrest persons as provided by law.
   D.   All police officers appointed hereunder shall have the authority to serve summonses and warrants in criminal cases arising out of the officer's daily duties.
   E.   All police officers appointed hereunder shall promptly execute all orders given by the Chief of Police and command officers within the line of their duties.
   F.   All police officers appointed hereunder will familiarize themselves and be responsible for performing their duties within the guidelines of published rules and regulations of the Hampshire Police Department as they are adopted from time to time by the Village President and Board of Trustees. 2-1-6: UNIFORMS AND EQUIPMENT:
   A.   All police officers appointed hereunder shall wear an appropriate uniform and badge insignia and carry an identification card to be issued annually as prescribed by established Police Department rules and regulations as adopted from time to time by the Village President and Board of Trustees.
   B.   The Village will furnish all police officers appointed hereunder with the necessary uniform and equipment upon his or her initial appointment pursuant to current rules and regulations as established from time to time by the Village President and Board of Trustees. (1985 Code)
