1363.01 CONVERSION PROHIBITED; EXCEPTIONS.

   Conversion of any floor of any building thereby creating a dwelling unit, room or rooms for occupancy is prohibited unless the owner has applied for and secured a change of zoning and thereafter has obtained the necessary building permits from the Division of Building, Engineering and Inspection and has complied with all provisions, ordinances, rules and regulations of this City and State.

   Existing converted dwelling units and rooms for which no building permit has been obtained pursuant to Section 1311.02 are illegal unless converted prior to April 23, 1935. Any owner maintaining an illegally converted dwelling unit or room is subject to the penalty provisions in Chapter 1301.

   Existing coverted dwelling units or rooms converted prior to April 23, 1935, shall upon notice to the owner from the Buiding Commissioner be upgraded so as to comply with the present City and State building and fire prevention codes for the protection of the health, safety, and welfare of the City.
