DIVISION 10. - VENTILATING AND AIR CONDITIONING
The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this division, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:
Air conditioning shall mean provision for the simultaneous automatic control of the temperature, motion, and humidity and a reduction in the dust content and odors for air employed in the ventilation of rooms. The three classifications of air conditioning which shall be recognized under this division shall be as follows:
(1) Winter air conditioning, which shall include the proper distribution of the cleaned, humidified and heated air to and within the spaces to be conditioned.
(2) Summer air conditioning, which shall include the proper distribution of the cleaned, dehumidified and cooled air to and within the spaces to be conditioned.
(3) All year conditioning, which shall provide for all the services enumerated in subsections (1) and (2) above.
Partial cooling shall mean a device designed and employed to accomplish the partial cooling of the air in a room or rooms, either by means of direct expansion coils or water coils employing chilled water as a cooling medium, and located either within the room or rooms to be so partially cooled, or immediately adjacent thereto.
Ventilation shall mean the process of supplying or removing air by natural or mechanical means, to or from any space. Such air may or may not have been conditioned.
(Ord. No. 81-65, § 8.1, 11-4-81)
Cross reference— Definitions and rules of construction generally, § 1-2.
(a) The plans and specifications of all air conditioning or partial cooling installations submitted for approval under this article shall set forth the heat transmission coefficients for barriers and the amounts and sources of heat loss and gain. The design temperatures and relative humidity shall be recorded for air outside and inside, for condensing air or water, and for the heat transferring medium.
(b) These governing design factors and temperatures shall be such as to produce an effective result at least equal to those set forth by the Heating, Ventilating, Air Conditioning Guide, as published by the American Society of Heating and Ventilating Engineers, and amendments thereto.
