§ 32.01 CHIEF OF POLICE.
   The Chief of Police shall be appointed by the Board, to serve at will of the Board, and shall have general supervision over the Police Department and shall be responsible for the efficiency thereof, with such duties as may be assigned by the Board.

§ 32.02 ATTENDANCE AT BOARD MEETINGS.
   The Chief of Police or, in his or her absence, one of the police officers, shall be present at the meetings of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen whenever requested by the Board or by the Town Administrator.

§ 32.03 COMPOSITION AND ORGANIZATION.
   The Police Department shall consist of the Chief of Police and such number of subordinate officers and personnel as the Board of Mayor and Aldermen may provide for.

§ 32.04 POLICE OFFICERS TO PRESERVE LAW AND ORDER.
   Police officers shall preserve law and order within the Town. They shall patrol the Town and shall assist the Town Court during the trial of cases. Police officers shall also promptly serve any legal process issued by the Town Court.

§ 32.05 ENFORCEMENT OF ORDINANCES.
   The Chief of Police shall see that all ordinances are enforced and when any violation shall come to his or her attention, whether by personal observation or by information from others, he or she shall make complaint and cause the person to be prosecuted.

§ 32.06 POLICE OFFICERS SUBJECT TO CHIEF’S ORDERS.
   All police officers shall obey and comply with such orders and administrative rules and regulations as the Police Chief may officially issue or that may be issued by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen.

§ 32.07 POLICE TO WEAR UNIFORMS AND BE ARMED.
   All police officers shall wear such uniforms and badge as the Board may authorize and shall carry a service pistol and impact weapon at all times while on duty unless otherwise expressly directed by the Chief for special assignment.

§ 32.08 ARREST AND AUTHORITY.
   Unless otherwise authorized or directed in this code or other applicable law, an arrest of a person shall be made by a police officer in the following cases:
   (A)   Whenever he or she is in possession of a warrant for the arrest of a person;
   (B)   Whenever an offense is committed or a breach of the peace is threatened in the officer’s presence by the person;
   (C)   Whenever a felony has in fact been committed and the officer has probable cause to believe the person has committed it.
