9-10-2: EXEMPT SIGNS NOT REQUIRING PERMIT:
   A.   Real Estate Signs: Real estate signs not exceeding four (4) square feet in area and four feet (4') in height which advertise the sale, rental or lease of the premises upon which they are located. Such signs shall be removed within seven (7) days of the sale, closing, rental or leasing of said property.
   B.   Residential Name And Street Address Signs: One residential name and street address sign so long as said sign is no more than two (2) square feet in area and is attached to a structure. Such sign shall not project more than one inch (1") beyond the face of the building. (Ord. 277, 10-29-1997)
   C.   Temporary Unlit Banners:
      1.   Banner like signs, including, but not limited to, pennants, pennant flap, streamers and fliers advertising a business or other for profit entity, if approved in writing by the village administrator, may be displayed for not more than fourteen (14) days in a twelve (12) month period.
      2.   Application shall be made on forms provided by the village and submitted to the village administrator who shall refer such application to the planning and zoning commission for comment. Such application shall include a drawing of the sign reflecting color, size, and appearance, as well as the number and proposed location.
      3.   Such banner like signs shall conform as provided in section 9-10-5 of this chapter and must utilize a western/railroad motif as provided in section 8-2-6 of this code.
      4.   The village administrator after consideration of the comments by the planning and zoning commission may issue written approval with such conditions as determined to comply with the intent of this exemption with a copy to be kept by the village clerk for at least twenty four (24) months.    D.   Temporary Political Signs: Temporary unlit political signs shall be permitted up to a total area of six (6) square feet for each premises. Such signs may be erected no earlier than thirty (30) days prior to any primary, general or special election. They shall be removed within three (3) days after the election to which the sign pertains. The candidate portrayed on the sign or for whom the sign advertises shall bear the responsibility for removal. These signs may only be placed on private property and shall not be attached to utility poles.
   E.   Advertising For Community Or Civic Events: Temporary unlit signs advertising community or civic events, and public entertainments presented by, or for the benefit of, nonprofit entities as defined by section 501C3 of the internal revenue code: such signs, if approved in writing by the village administrator, may be erected no earlier than fourteen (14) days prior to the event and shall be removed within three (3) days after the event. Copies of such approval shall be filed with the village clerk/treasurer. The administrator shall regulate the size, number and location of such signs. (Ord. 322, 10-14-2003)
   F.   Construction Signs: One construction sign on the construction site which does not exceed ten (10) square feet in area. Such signs shall be removed upon completion of the project.
   G.   Memorial Signs Or Tablets: One memorial sign or tablet not exceeding three (3) square feet in area and permanently attached to the building or structure.
   H.   Directional And Informational Signs: Directional and informational signs displaying such legends as "self-service", "parking", "open", "closed", "exit", "entrance", "lounge", "coffee shop", "office", "men's and women's restrooms", "inflammable", including arrows, menus, etc., shall be allowed. Each such sign shall not exceed two (2) square feet. It shall not be permissible for the name of the business to appear on directional signs. (Ord. 277, 10-29-1997)
   I.   G-2 Public Parks And Recreation Signs: G-2 public parks and recreation signs erected by the village, unlit and not exceeding sixteen (16) square feet in area. (Ord. 277A, 8-10-1999)
