With the concurrence of the Board of Control, as required by Charter Section 77, there is hereby established a Department on Aging subject to the Charter and ordinances of the City and to the direction of the Mayor. The Director may appoint and employ a secretary who may be in the unclassified service and such other officers and employees as may be necessary for the operation of his or her office and the several divisions and activities comprising the Department, except officers and employees appointed by the Commissioners of the several divisions in accordance with the provisions of Charter Section 79.
The Department on Aging shall be responsible for and shall administer, or wherever possible, assist in administering all City programs relating to older adults sixty (60) years of age or older, except where the legal requirements for the use of any funds for the elderly specify a lesser age.
