The hoisting ropes of power elevators having drum-type hoisting machines shall be reshackled at the car ends once every twelve (12) months on machines located over the hatchway. On machines located below or at side of the hatchway the reshackling shall be done once in every twenty-four (24) months. When an approved type emergency clamping device is installed reshackling at the periods specified shall not be required.
All counterweight ropes of drum machines shall be reshackled at the counter-weight ends once in every four (4) years.
Notwithstanding the requirements for reshackling within the periods specified above, reshackling shall be made when inspection reveals any evidence of weakness or failure at shackles.
When ropes are reshackled there shall be attached thereto a metal tag, which shall bear the name of the person or firm who performed such reshackling and the date on which such work was performed.
