Authority is hereby conferred upon the Chief of the Fire Department to adopt and promulgate regulations based on the standards of a nationally recognized organization embodying details of installation, construction and disposal of smoke detectors to carry into effect the provisions of this chapter.

Approved smoke detector(s) shall be installed in the following buildings:
(a) Every newly constructed residential dwelling prior to the issuance of an occupancy permit.
(b) Every hotel, motel, apartment building, boarding house, dormitory, nursing home, home for the aged and health institutions, within one year from the date of passage of this section. However, if conditions exist which warrant the installation of smoke detector(s) in a shorter time period, the Fire Chief shall be empowered to order and secure compliance with such installation orders.
