The approved smoke detector(s) shall be installed:
(a) Inside each sleeping room in hotels, motels, dormitories, boarding houses, nursing homes, homes for the aged and health institutions.
(b) Adjacent to the outside of sleeping rooms in single and multiple residential dwellings in such a manner that the alarm signaling device shall be clearly audible in all sleeping rooms when the intervening doors are closed, or in any other manner in compliance with regulations issued by the Chief of the Fire Department under the authority of this chapter.
