9-5-2: NUMBERING REQUIRED:
   A.   All houses in the village shall be numbered, and it is hereby made the duty of the owner, agent or person in possession of every house in the village to number or cause the same to be numbered in the manner as is provided in this chapter.
   B.   One number on each side of each thoroughfare shall be allotted to each twenty feet (20') of frontage. The numbering shall begin at the state line between the state of Illinois and the state of Wisconsin as a base line and shall increase southerly, a number being assigned for each twenty feet (20'), beginning within the present corporate limits on the north with number 551. Numbering shall begin on the east line of the corporate limits as a base line and shall increase westerly, a number being assigned for each twenty feet (20'), beginning within the present corporate limits on the east with number one.    C.   For streets running in a northerly and southerly direction, even numbers shall be placed on the westerly side and odd numbers on the easterly side. For streets running in an easterly and westerly direction, the even numbers shall be placed on the southerly side and the odd numbers on the northerly side. (1976 Code § 153.002; amd. 2003 Code)
   D.   Each of the figures of numbers so to be placed on houses shall be not less than three inches (3") in height and shall be so marked as to be distinctly and easily read and shall be of design to be approved by the village. Such numbers shall be placed in a conspicuous place on or near the front of the house. It shall be the obligation of the owner or occupant of the house to place the house numbers within six (6) months of the date of this chapter.
   E.   Whenever any house or building shall have been numbered or renumbered in accordance with this chapter, such number shall not be changed or altered unless upon application to the village clerk and upon new number being assigned therefor in accordance with this chapter.
   F.   In all cases where numbers have been assigned on any street, in pursuance hereof or of any ordinance hereafter passed, it shall be the duty of the village clerk to adjust and reassign such numbers as the same may be required from time to time, and in all cases where there is a mistake or conflict in numbers, the village clerk shall direct and make the proper adjustment of the same. If any person shall feel himself aggrieved, he may make complaint to the mayor and village board of trustees and have an adjustment made accordingly. (1976 Code § 153.002)
