11-4-11: SIDEWALKS; PEDESTRIANWAYS:
   A.   Sidewalks shall be required on both sides of streets in residential subdivisions with lot sizes of twenty thousand (20,000) square feet or less, and in commercial and industrial areas. Sidewalks shall be provided on peripheral streets of all subdivisions. In subdivisions with a residential density over twenty thousand (20,000) square feet per dwelling unit, the village board of trustees, upon recommendation of the plan commission, may require sidewalks only at selected locations.
   B.   The minimum width of sidewalks shall be four feet (4') along residential collector streets and residential minor streets where required, and five feet (5') in commercial and industrial areas and along primary and secondary streets. All sidewalks shall be of Portland cement concrete construction in accordance with the "Standard Specifications For Road And Bridge Construction", latest edition, Illinois department of transportation.
   C.   Pedestrianways within easements where required or proposed shall be a minimum of two feet (2') wide and constructed of asphalt a minimum of one and one-half inches (11/2") thick over an aggregate base a minimum of three inches (3") thick. Within wetland areas, alternative pervious surfaces may be substituted for asphalt, subject to the review and approval of the village engineer.
   D.   Bike trails where required or proposed shall be designed and constructed in conformance with the standards in "Guide For Development Of New Bicycle Facilities", 1981, American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials. (1976 Code § 152.031)
   E.   In lieu of the standards set forth in subsections A and B of this section, sidewalks shall be provided in planned unit developments of greater than two hundred (200) acres pursuant to the preliminary plan approved by the village board of trustees for the planned unit development.
