It shall be the duty of police officers in and for the city at all times, when on duty, to enter all public places of business when open to the general public and make a thorough and complete search and examination thereof for the purpose of determining whether there is any violation of the ordinance prohibiting nuisances, of the ordinance regulating the storage of explosives, kerosene, coal oil, petroleum and dynamite and all other ordinances providing for the protection and preservation of the public health, public morals and guarding the public safety.
