6-1-1: ARREST FOR VIOLATIONS:
It shall be the duty of police officers to make complaint before the city judge against all persons known to him to be guilty of a violation of the criminal laws of the state or ordinances of the city; to arrest and take into custody, with or without warrant or process, any person who shall be found in any street or alley or in any other public place, in a state of gross intoxication, or doing any act in violation of the laws of the state or ordinances of the city; and to bring such person before the city judge, or place him or her in the county jail, to be dealt with according to law; to execute all orders or processes issued to him by the mayor, city court or city council, or other officer having power to issue the same and make due return thereof. 6-1-2: EXAMINATION OF PUBLIC PLACES:
It shall be the duty of police officers in and for the city at all times, when on duty, to enter all public places of business when open to the general public and make a thorough and complete search and examination thereof for the purpose of determining whether there is any violation of the ordinance prohibiting nuisances, of the ordinance regulating the storage of explosives, kerosene, coal oil, petroleum and dynamite and all other ordinances providing for the protection and preservation of the public health, public morals and guarding the public safety. 6-1-3: EXAMINE ENTRANCES AND EXITS OF PUBLIC BUILDINGS:
It shall be the duty of police officers at all times, when on duty, to make a careful examination of the front and rear entrances to all public places of businesses after the closing hour of business for the day and when closed at any other time to the general public, and determine from said examination whether said entrances are securely locked, bolted and fastened, and to examine all windows in said public places of businesses that can be reached from the street by extending hand.
