§ 6-3A-9 BITING BY DOGS OR OTHER ANIMALS; RABIES TEST.
   (A)   Apprehension of animal upon complaint. It shall be the duty of the Chief of Police, when a complaint is received that a dog or other animal has bitten a person, to take the dog or other animal into custody, if practicable, and turn it over to a licensed veterinarian, and to make reasonable efforts to notify the owner.
   (B)   Release of animal to owner’s custody. If satisfactory evidence is presented to the veterinarian that the dog or animal is immunized for rabies or the veterinarian is of the opinion that the dog or animal does not have rabies, the dog or animal may be released to the owner upon such owner paying all charges incident to picking up, holding, and examining the dog or animal and signing an agreement to properly secure and muzzle the dog or animal.
   (C)   Disposal of rabid animal. If at such time the dog or animal is found to have rabies, such dog or animal shall be disposed of in the manner as prescribed by the Chief of Police and approved by the Town Council; provided, that all such cases shall be checked and recorded by the Chief of Police.
