There is hereby created a police department for the village which shall consist of such personnel as may be provided by the board of trustees. The president of the board of trustees shall, as the chief administrative officer of the village, be the supporting authority for all personnel of said police department subject to the consent of the board of trustees. As appointing authority, the president of the board of trustees shall appoint a chief of police subject to the consent of the board of trustees. (1984 Code § 9-1-1-1; amd. 2010 Code)
The president of the board of trustees shall have administrative control over the police department and shall appoint a chief of police in accordance with section 6-1-1 of this chapter and in accordance with applicable state statutes. The chief of police shall perform duties and have responsibilities as described in this chapter and as designated by the board of trustees. This chapter shall be amended from time to time by action of the board of trustees. (1984 Code § 9-1-1-1)
