§ 14-13  FIREARMS AND OTHER WEAPONS PROHIBITED ON CITY PROPERTY.
   (A)   Except as provided in division (G) of this section, all persons are prohibited from possessing any firearm, including a handgun carried under the authority of a lawful concealed handgun permit, in city-owned buildings and their appurtenant premises, as defined herein.
   (B)   Except as provided in division (G) of this section, all persons are prohibited from possessing any firearm, unless carried concealed under the authority of a lawful concealed handgun permit, in any city park. However, the exception for concealed carry of a lawfully concealed handgun permit does not apply to those locations identified in division (C) of this section.
   (C)   Except as provided in division (G) of this section, all persons are prohibited from possessing any firearm, including a concealed handgun carried under the authority of a lawful concealed handgun permit, at the following city recreational facilities (i.e. athletic facilities, athletic field, pools, and playgrounds) in accordance with G.S. § 14-415.23:
      (1)   The Oxford Recreation Complex facility including the gymnasium, playground area, athletic fields, tennis courts, skate park, and basketball court located at 320 Williamsboro Street, Oxford, N.C.;
      (2)   The entirety of the Oxford Park Athletic Complex located at 6048 Horner Siding Road, Oxford, N.C.;
      (3)   Rucker Park Facility, including Rucker Park Family Pool, athletic field and basketball courts located at 1004 Stem Road, Oxford, N.C.:
      (4)   The Volleyball Court at Lake Devin Park located at 3049 Lake Devin Road, Oxford, N.C.;
      (5)   Granville Street Park located at 500 Granville Street. Oxford, N.C.;
      (6)   Any other property owned by the city which could be reasonably designated as a pool, playground, athletic field or athletic facility.
   (D)   Except as provided in division (G) of this section all persons are prohibited from possessing weapons other than firearms, as defined in G.S. § 14-269 in city-owned buildings, their appurtenant premises, and in city parks and recreation facilities, as defined herein.
   (E)   Nothing herein is intended to prohibit a person from storing a firearm within a motor vehicle while the vehicle is on the aforementioned properties within the city.
   (F)   For the purposes of this section, BUILDINGS is defined as set forth in G.S. § 14-54(c) as including any dwelling, dwelling house, uninhabited house, building under construction, building within the curtilage of a dwelling house, and any other structure designed to house or secure within it any activity or property.
   (G)   The prohibitions set forth herein shall not apply to the following persons:
      (1)   Officers and enlisted personnel of the armed forces of the United States when in discharge of their official duties as such and acting under orders requiring them to carry arms and weapons;
      (2)   Civil officers of the United States while in the discharge of their official duties;
      (3)   Officers and soldiers of the militia and the national guard when called into actual service;
      (4)   Sworn law enforcement officers;
      (5)   City of Oxford or Granville County animal control officers;
      (6)   Persons firing firearms without projectiles in organized educational, entertainment, structional, or ceremonial events sponsored by the city.
   (H)   A conspicuous notice shall be posted at each entrance to any property set forth in division (A), (B), or (C) of this section outlining the restrictions prescribed in this section.
   (I)   Any person in violation of this section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction shall be fined up to $500 or imprisonment for no greater than six months or both.
   (J)   Firearms and other weapons possessed in violation of this section are hereby declared to be contraband. The Chief of Police or his or her designee shall dispose of such weapons pursuant to applicable state law.
