(A) All premises where buildings or portions of buildings are located more than 300 feet from a fire hydrant shall be provided with approved on-site fire hydrants and water mains capable of supplying the water flow required by the fire official. The location and number of on-site hydrants shall be designated by the fire official, with the minimum arrangement being so as to have a hydrant available for distribution of hose to any portion of any building on the premises at distances not exceeding 300 feet.
(B) (1) All fire hydrants shall be installed on water lines that are a minimum of six-inches in diameter, wherever water main lines are reasonably accessible as determined by the fire official. Fire hydrants are required in business and multi-family dwelling areas and shall not be more than 600 feet apart. Fire hydrants are also required in all one- and two-family dwelling areas and the hydrants shall not be more than 600 feet apart.
(2) The placement of all hydrants is subject to the written approval of the fire official, which must be obtained at the time or prior to the time the building permit is issued.
