872.16 APPLICATION AND DISQUALIFICATIONS.
   (a)   After complying with relevant provisions of the application process, each application shall be examined by the Director of Public Safety as to whether or not the applicant has obtained relevant licensing from the State as to the applicant's traffic and criminal record.
   (b)   If upon checking the record of any applicant for an original license or for renewal of a license, the Director of Public Safety shall disqualify from the issuance of a license if the applicant has been convicted within the past five years or has charges pending for any of the following crimes: any felony in which physical violence was used, traffic-related homicide, manslaughter or assault, rape or any other sex offense, burglary, arson, any felony drug offense, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
   (c)   Nothing in this section shall be construed to limit the discretion of the Director of Public Safety to refuse to issue a license for other background related issues.
   (d)   Applicants for an original license will submit to a BCI Background Check at their expense and shall submit or cause the submission of the results with their application.
