5-1-12: PART TIME POLICE OFFICERS:
   A.   Authority To Employ: The village hereby authorizes the employment of part time police officers pursuant to the provisions of 65 Illinois Compiled Statutes 5/3.1-30-21.
   B.   Definition; Conditions: A "part time police officer" is defined as a police officer hired for duties which require specific hours, but are not required to work all regular days (shifts) of the year. The part time police officers are not entitled to sick leave, vacation, or other similar benefits. They are to work twenty (20) hours or less per week, or occasionally for more hours, if needed, when requested by the department supervisor.
   C.   Requirements For Applicants: All applicants for employment as a part time officer shall satisfy all of the following minimum conditions:
      1.   Must have a high school (twelfth grade) diploma.
      2.   Must be a United States citizen.
      3.   Must have a valid Illinois driver's license.
      4.   Must submit to criminal history investigation (background check), including submission of fingerprints to Illinois state police bureau of identification and federal bureau of investigation.
      5.   Must have a legal residence within thirty five (35) miles of the village.
      6.   Must have a valid Illinois FOID card (firearms).
      7.   Must pass a medical physical examination including drug testing.
      8.   Must complete the Illinois law enforcement training and standards board requirements, presently completion of four hundred (400) hours of certified training, or receive a waiver from the training board and power test. (Ord. 982, 8-13-1997)
   D.   Probationary Period: All original appointments to the position of a part time police officer shall serve a probationary period of one year after completion of in service training. Prior to the completion of the probationary period, the chief of police shall recommend to the police and public safety committee the retention or dismissal of the probationary appointee. If the recommendation is for dismissal before the end of the probationary period, the chief of police shall state to the police and public safety committee the reasons for said dismissal. The police and public safety committee shall make the final determination of whether to dismiss the probationary part time police officer, and the police and public safety committee shall not be required to hold any hearings in arriving at a final decision of dismissal.
