5-1-6: GENERAL DUTIES OF POLICE:
The members of the police department shall have the following duties:
   A.   Enforcement: It shall be the duty of the members of the police department to see to the enforcement of all of the provisions of this code, village ordinances and applicable state law, and to preserve order and prevent infractions and arrest violators therefor.
   B.   Appear As Witnesses:
      1.   Every member of the police department shall appear as witness whenever it is necessary in the prosecution for a violation of this code, village ordinances or of any state or federal law.
      2.   No member of the police department shall retain any witness fee for service as witness in any action or suit to which the village is a party. Any fees paid for such services shall be turned over to the chief of police who shall deposit same with the village treasurer. (Ord. 457, 8-11-1976)
   C.   Conduct Of Members:
      1.   It shall be the duty of members of the police department to conduct themselves in a proper and law abiding manner at all times and to avoid the use of unnecessary force.
      2.   Each member of the police department shall obey all lawful orders and directions of his superior.
   D.   Resignation Or Termination; Return Property To Village: In the event of resignation or termination of any police officer, he shall immediately return to the police chief, or in the case of the police chief to the chairman of the committee on police and public safety, all badges, commission cards issued to him and any village property in his possession.
