5-1-5: CHIEF OF POLICE:
   A.   General Duties:
      1.   The chief of police shall be the keeper of the village jail and shall have custody of all persons incarcerated therein.
      2.   He shall also have the custody of all lost, abandoned or stolen property recovered in the village.
      3.   He shall keep such records and maintain such reports concerning the activities of the police department as may be required by state law or by the mayor and village board of trustees.
      4.   The chief of police shall be responsible for the performance by the police department of its functions, and all persons who are members of the police department shall serve subject to the orders of the chief of police.
   B.   Promulgation Of Rules And Regulations:
      1.   The chief of police may make or prescribe such rules and regulations regarding the operation of the police department as he shall deem advisable.
      2.   Such rules, when approved by the mayor and board of trustees, shall be binding on the members of the police department.
      3.   Such rules and regulations may cover the conduct of members, uniforms and equipment to be worn or carried, hours of service, scheduling of vacations, and all other similar matters necessary or desirable for the efficiency of the police department. (Ord. 457, 8-11-1976)
