6.04.160: DISPOSITION OF UNCLAIMED OR DISEASED DOGS OR CATS:
   A.   The animal control officer shall keep each impounded dog or cat for a period of five (5) days. If, at the expiration of five (5) days from the notice to the owner or the posting of notice as provided in this chapter, a dog or cat has not been reclaimed, it shall become the property of the local government authority or humane society, and shall be placed for adoption in a suitable home or humanely euthanized.
   B.   Any dog or cat which upon examination appears to be suffering from mange or other infections or dangerous disease shall not be released and may be destroyed forthwith, but any dog or cat which appears to be suffering from rabies shall not be destroyed or released as provided in this chapter.
