6.04.020: NUMBER OF DOGS AND CATS AN OWNER MAY KEEP:
   A.   It is unlawful for any owner to keep more than two (2) dogs over the age of six (6) months within the county of Mineral, except:
      1.   If any owner has more than two (2) dogs over the age of six (6) months at the effective date of the ordinance codified in this chapter; or
      2.   If any owner moves to Mineral County to permanently reside and has more than two (2) dogs over the age of six (6) months after the effective date of the ordinance codified in this chapter; such owner shall not thereafter add another dog or replace a dog until the dog population at his residence drops to one and then shall not add but one dog.
   B.   It is unlawful for any owner to keep more than two (2) cats over the age of six (6) months within the county of Mineral, except that if any owner: 1) has more than two (2) cats over the age of six (6) months at the effective date hereof, or 2) moves to Mineral County to permanently reside and has more than two (2) cats over the age of six (6) months after the effective date hereof, such owner shall be permitted to keep said cat or cats; however, such owner shall not thereafter add another cat or replace a cat until the cat population at his residence drops to one cat and then shall not add but one cat.
   C.   The provisions of this section do not apply to animals owned by a licensed research facility or held in a veterinary medical facility or government operated or government licensed animal shelter. (MC Ord. 102A § 2, 1986)
