The purpose of this chapter is to regulate the use of burglar alarm systems within the village and to require permits therefor prior to the installation of any such burglar alarm systems. (1983 Code § 3-4-1)
For the purpose of this chapter, the following terms, phrases, words and their derivations shall have the following meanings:
ALARM SYSTEM: Any mechanical or electrical device which is designed or used for the detection of an unauthorized entry into a building, structure or facility or for alerting others of the commission of an unlawful act within a building, structure or facility, or both, and which emits a sound or transmits a signal or message when activated and to which police are expected to respond.
FALSE ALARM: The intentional or unintentional activation of an alarm system through mechanical failure, malfunction, improper installation, or the negligence of the owner or lessee of an alarm system or his employees or agents which necessitates response by the police department of the village of Milan where an attempted or actual burglary or holdup does not exist. The term does not include, for example, alarms caused by tornadoes, earthquakes, or other natural conditions. (1983 Code § 3-4-2; amd. 2011 Code)
