The law director shall be appointed by Council to serve at the will of Council. He/she shall be an attorney at law, admitted to the practice of law in the State of Ohio. He/she shall reside in Lake County and shall maintain an office for the practice of law in Lake County, Ohio.
The law director shall be the advisor of and attorney and counsel for the municipality and for all officers and divisions thereof in all matters relating to their official duties, and shall, when requested, give legal opinions in writing. He/she shall represent the municipality and shall prosecute for offenses against the ordinances of the municipality and for such offenses against the laws of Ohio as he/she may legally be required to prosecute. He/she shall, on request of the manager, prepare contracts, bonds and other instruments in writing in which the municipality is concerned and shall perform such other duties as the manager or Council may impose upon him/her consistent with this office. He/she shall have such assistants as Council may determine.
