A Zoning Board of Adjustment, to be hereinafter referred to as the "board", is hereby established pursuant to section 414.7, Code of Iowa. The board shall consist of five (5) members, and two (2) alternates, each to be appointed by the Mayor, subject to the approval of the City Council, for a term of five (5) years. Alternate members shall participate and vote on matters before the board only when called upon to make up a quorum or comprise a full five (5) member panel at any meeting. In no case shall they actively participate where all five (5) regular members are present. A member whose term has expired shall continue to serve until a successor is appointed and approved. Vacancies shall be filled in the same manner for the unexpired term of the member whose office becomes vacant. The members of the board shall serve without pay and shall be removable by the Council only for cause upon written charges and after a public hearing. (Ord. 10-16, 7-6-2010; amd. 2017 Code)
