ORDINANCE NO. 24 - 5
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE CITY CODE OF THE CITY OF MASON CITY, IOWA, BY REPEALING TITLE 9, CHAPTER 4: SPEED REGULATIONS, SECTION 1: SPEED RESTRICTIONS AND ADOPTING A NEW SECTION 1 IN LIEU THEREOF
 
      BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Mason City, Iowa:
   
Section 1: That the City Code of the City of Mason City, Iowa, should be and the same is hereby amended by repealing Title 9, Chapter 4: Speed Regulations, Section 1: Speed Restrictions and adopting a new Section 1 in lieu thereof as follows:
"TITLE 9
CHAPTER 4
SPEED REGULATIONS
 
9-4-1: SPEED RESTRICTIONS:   Any person operating a motor vehicle on a street or highway within the City limits of the City of Mason City shall operate said vehicle at a speed in accordance with, and not in excess of, the speed restrictions established by Iowa Code section 321.285 and any subsequent revisions thereto, except as specifically modified below. The following shall be the lawful speeds except as herein modified, and any speed in excess thereof shall be unlawful:
15 miles per hour:
Lime Creek Road, from a point where Nature Center Road intersects, thence east to a point one hundred fifty feet (150') west of the west entrance to the Lime Creek Nature Center parking lot.
Twenty Third Street Southwest, from a point where South Monroe Avenue intersects, thence west to the eastern border of Frederick Hanford Park.
25 miles per hour:
On roads, streets and alleys within the corporate limits of Mason City that are not classified by this chapter.
30 miles per hour:
Birch Drive, from a point where Fourth Street Southeast intersects, thence southerly and easterly to the south City limits.
North Kentucky Avenue, from a point where East State Street intersects, thence north to a point where Twelfth Street Northeast intersects.
North Pierce Avenue, from a point two hundred fifteen feet (215') north of the Meadow Lane intersection, thence north to a point where Twelfth Street Northwest intersects. Exception: When the school zone beacon lights are flashing, speed limit is reduced to twenty five (25) miles per hour.
South Kentucky Avenue, from a point where Fourth Street Southeast intersects, thence south to a point one hundred feet (100') south of Nineteenth Street Southeast intersection.
South Monroe Avenue, from a point four hundred feet (400') south of Seventh Street Southwest intersection, thence north to a point where Fifth Street Southwest intersects.
South Taft Avenue, from a point where Nineteenth Street Southwest intersects, thence south to the south City limits.
Fifteenth Street Southwest, from a point where South Federal Avenue intersects, thence west to a point where South Monroe Avenue intersects.
Nineteenth Street Southwest from one thousand six hundred feet (1,600') east of South Pierce Avenue to two hundred feet (200') west of Pierce Avenue.
35 miles per hour:
North and South Taft Avenue, from a point where Nineteenth Street Southwest intersects, thence north to a point where Twelfth Street Northwest intersects.
North Illinois Avenue, from a point six hundred sixty feet (660') north of East State Street intersection, thence north to a point where Twelfth Street Northeast intersects.
South Eisenhower Avenue, from a point where Fourth Street Southwest intersects, thence south to a point where Ninth Street Southwest intersects.
South Iowa Avenue, from a point where Fourth Street Southeast intersects, thence south to a point where Eleventh Street Southeast intersects.
South Monroe Avenue, from a point four hundred feet (400') south of Seventh Street Southwest intersection, thence south to a point where Nineteenth Street Southwest intersects.
South Pierce Avenue, from a point where Ninth Street Southwest intersects, thence south to a point where Fifteenth Street Southwest intersects.
Eleventh Street Southeast, from a point where South Iowa Avenue intersects, thence east to the east City limits.
Twelfth Street Northeast, from a point where North California Avenue intersects, thence east to the east City limits.
Twelfth Street Northeast, from a point where North Ohio Avenue intersects, thence east to a point two thousand six hundred feet (2,600') east of North Illinois Avenue intersection.
Twelfth Street Northwest, from a point where North Eisenhower Avenue intersects, thence west to the west City limits.
Fifteenth Street Southwest, from a point where South Monroe Avenue intersects, thence west to a point where South Taft Avenue intersects.
Nineteenth Street Southeast from a point where South Virginia Avenue intersects, thence east to South Kentucky Avenue.
Nineteenth Street Southwest from South Federal Avenue to one thousand six hundred feet (1,600') east of South Pierce Avenue.
Nineteenth Street Southwest, from two hundred feet (200') west of South Pierce Avenue to two-tenths (2/10) of a mile west of the Taft Avenue intersection. Exception: When school lights are flashing, speed limit is reduced to twenty five (25) miles per hour.
Thirty Fifth Street Southeast, from a point where South Federal Avenue intersects, thence east to the east City limits.
45 miles per hour:
College Drive, from a point where Fourth Street Southeast intersects, thence north to a point two thousand two hundred ninety feet (2,290').
North and South Eisenhower Avenue, from a point where Twelfth Street Northwest intersects, thence south to a point where Fourth Street Southwest intersects.
South Eisenhower Avenue, from a point where Ninth Street Southwest intersects, thence south to a point where Nineteenth Street Southwest intersects.
South Kentucky Avenue, from a point one hundred feet (100') south of the Nineteenth Street Southeast intersection, thence south to the south City limits.
South Pierce Avenue, from a point where Nineteenth Street Southwest intersects, thence south to a point two thousand six hundred forty feet (2,640') south of the Nineteenth Street Southwest intersection.
Ninth Street Southwest, from a point where South Taft Avenue intersects, thence west to a point where South Eisenhower Avenue intersects.
Twelfth Street Northeast, from a point two thousand six hundred feet (2,600') east of the North Illinois Avenue intersection, thence east to a point where North California Avenue intersects.
Twelfth Street Northwest, from a point two hundred fifteen feet (215') west of North Pierce Avenue intersection, thence west to a point two hundred seventy five feet (275') west of the western portion of North Taft Avenue intersection.
Nineteenth Street Southwest, from a point two-tenths (2/10) of a mile west of the Taft Avenue intersection, thence west to a point nine hundred fifty feet (950') west of Country Club Drive intersection.
55 miles per hour:
North and South California Avenue, from the south City limits, thence northerly to the north City limits.
North Eisenhower Avenue, from a point where Twelfth Street Northwest intersects, thence north to the north City limits.
South Eisenhower Avenue, from a point where Nineteenth Street Southwest intersects, thence south to the south City limits.
South Pierce Avenue, from a point two thousand six hundred forty feet (2,640') south of Nineteenth Street Southwest intersection, thence south to a point where Forty Third Street Southwest intersects.
Twelfth Street Northwest, from a point two hundred seventy five feet (275') west of the western portion of North Taft Avenue intersection, thence west to a point where North Eisenhower Avenue intersects.
Nineteenth Street Southwest, from a point nine hundred fifty feet (950') west of Country Club Drive intersection, thence west to the west City limits.
Forty Third Street Southwest, from a point where South Federal Avenue intersects, thence west to the west City limits. (Ord. 13-01, 1-15-2013)
Section 2: That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed.
   Section 3: If any section, provision, or part of this ordinance shall be adjudged to be invalid or unconstitutional, such adjudication shall not affect the validity of the Ordinance as a whole or any section thereof, or part thereof, not adjudged invalid or unconstitutional.
Section 4: This ordinance shall be in full force and effect upon its final passage, approval and publication as required by law.
