Each application shall be accompanied by a certificate from a reputable physician of the city certifying that, in his opinion, the applicant is not inflicted with any disease or deformity which might make him an unsafe or unsatisfactory driver. At the time the application is filed the applicant shall pay to the city clerk the sum of three dollars. (Prior code § 22-3-3)
Before any application is finally passed upon by the city clerk, the applicant shall be required to pass a satisfactory examination as to his knowledge of the city and show that he has a current motor vehicle operator's permit issued by the state. (Amended during 1992 codification: prior code § 22-3-4)
The police department shall conduct an investigation of each applicant for a taxicab driver's license and a report of such investigation and a copy of the traffic and police record of the applicant, if any, shall be attached to the application for the consideration of the city clerk. (Prior code § 22-3-6)
The city clerk shall upon consideration of the application and the reports and certificate required to be attached thereto approve or reject the application. If the application is rejected, the applicant may request a personal appearance before the city commission to offer evidence why his application should be reconsidered. (Prior code § 22-3-5)
Upon approval of an application for a taxicab driver's license the city clerk shall issue a license to the applicant which shall bear the name, address, color, age, signature and photograph of the applicant. Such license shall be in effect for the remainder of the calendar year. A license for every calendar year thereafter shall issue upon the payment of three dollars unless the license for the preceding year has been revoked. (Prior code § 22-3-7)
