Sec. 5-90. - Registration fees and insurance requirements; renewal.
(a)   An initial registration fee of forty dollars ($40.00) shall be paid by the contractor with the first application for registration, along with the applicable annual fee set forth herein. The annual fee to be paid thereafter for renewal shall be as set forth in the following schedule:
(1)   General contractors; defined as those performing commercial, industrial, public works, and/or residential construction of larger than four-family homes; a general contractor may supervise, arrange and/or perform partly or completely more than two (2) unrelated building trades or craft, provided that the general contractor is appropriately licensed in the trade or craft where licensing is required; five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000.00) insurance coverage, applicable workers' compensation coverage as determined by state law, and two hundred dollars ($200.00) registration fee.
(2)   General contractors, residential only; defined as those constructing up to four-family homes, or performing home remodeling; a general contractor, residential only, may supervise, arrange and/or perform partly or completely more than two (2) unrelated building trades or craft, provided that the general contractor is appropriately licensed in the trade or craft where licensing is required; two hundred fifty thousand dollars ($250,000.00) insurance coverage, applicable workers' compensation coverage as determined by state law, and seventy-five dollars ($75.00) registration fee.
(3)   Specialty contractors; defined as those who perform commercial, industrial, public works, and residential construction and specialize in two (2) or fewer unrelated building trades or crafts; one hundred thousand dollars ($100,000.00) insurance coverage, applicable workers' compensation coverage as determined by state law, and thirty dollars ($30.00) registration fee. Any specialty contractor holding a valid and effective state or local license to perform plumbing, HVAC or electrical work shall be exempt from the registration fee herein, but shall be registered and subject to all terms and conditions of this article.
(b)   The registration shall expire on December 31 of every year and if not timely renewed, shall be automatically suspended.
(c)   On or before January 1 of each year, every registered contractor shall pay as a registration fee for the ensuing twelve (12) months, such sums as are provided in subsection (a) of this section.
(d)   Any registration fee paid after January 1 but before January 31 of each year shall include a late payment fee of twenty-five dollars ($25.00). If payment of the registration fee and late payment fee is made by January 31, the suspension shall cease and the renewal registration issued.
(e)   Before renewal of the registration, every registered contractor shall certify that all information provided pursuant to section 5-88 remains accurate and that the contractor is in compliance with all provisions of section 5-88.
