(a) The appointed members of the commission shall serve a term of four (4) years from the date of appointment, provided that the terms of those originally appointed shall be staggered in the manner required by section 7.02 of the Urban County Charter. Vacancies shall be filled for an unexpired term in the manner prescribed for the original appointment. Any member may be appointed for additional terms.
(b) The ex officio members shall consist of the commissioner of public safety, the chief justice of the Fayette circuit court, the chief justice of the Fayette district court, the commonwealth attorney, the county attorney, the public defender, the chief of police, the sheriff, the director of community corrections, the program administrator for juvenile detention, the commissioner of social services, the director of comprehensive care, the director of pretrial services, the Fayette County circuit clerk, the director of adult probation, the director of the commonwealth probation and parole office, and the president of the Fayette County bar association. Additionally, the mayor shall appoint, subject to confirmation by a majority of the urban county councilmembers, a member of the Fayette County delegation to the Kentucky General Assembly and an urban county councilmember. The ex officio members may select a designee authorized to represent them on the commission. Both the appointed members and the ex officio members or their designees shall be voting members of the commission. The office of the mayor and the department of law shall provide staff and assistance to the commission as needed. Commission members shall receive no compensation for their services.
