There shall be a Fire Department, the head of which shall be the Chief of the Fire Department. The Chief shall be appointed for an indefinite term by the City Manager and may be removed by the City Manager. There shall be such Assistant Chiefs, firefighters and other personnel as may be appointed or approved. The Chief and other personnel may be removed only for cause. (Prior Code § 1-21)

A. It is the duty of the Fire Department, among others, to extinguish fires; to rescue persons endangered by fire; to resuscitate, and to administer first aid to, persons injured in or about burning structures, or elsewhere in case of an emergency; to promote fire prevention; and unless otherwise provided, to enforce all ordinances relating to fires, fire prevention, and safety of persons from fire in theaters, stores and other public buildings.
B. The Chief shall keep the City Manager informed regarding the Fire Department and its needs and shall make such reports as the City may require. (Prior Code § 1-31)
A. The Fire Department of the City is a volunteer Fire Department which is comprised of not less than twelve (12) nor more than twenty five (25) volunteer firefighters. (Ord. 733, 2-21-2017)
B. For the purpose of this chapter, a volunteer firefighter shall be considered as one who is enrolled as a member of the Fire Department and who serves in that capacity without receiving a regular salary. (Prior Code §§ 1-22, 1-23)
