(a) At such time as a public sanitary sewer becomes available to a property served by a private sewage disposal system, as provided in § 21A-5, a direct connection of the building sanitary sewer shall be made to the public sewer in compliance with this chapter.

(b) Upon connection of the building sewer to the public sanitary sewer, the private sewage disposal system shall be abandoned, cleaned of sludge, and filled with clean bank-run gravel or dirt.
